About aqeeq
Aqeeq is the Arabic name for carnelian and agate, and red carnelian is one of its most loved forms. It is a chalcedony coloured by iron, so each bead has its own shade, from bright orange to deep red.
The stone has a long tradition in the region for rings and prayer beads, and crystal traditions associate it with motivation, endurance and courage. These meanings come from culture and belief. Older strands often take on a soft sheen from years of handling, which many owners treasure.
Who it suits
A 33-bead strand with 10mm beads suits most adult hands and fits neatly in a pocket. The bead size is also easy for older hands to feel and move. It is a much-appreciated gift for elders and for anyone returning from Hajj or Umrah. Find out more in our carnelian guide.
Care
Wipe the beads with a soft cloth after use and keep them away from fragrances and soaps. Store the tasbih in a soft pouch or a small wooden box.
