About lapis lazuli
Lapis lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral. Its blue comes from lazurite, and it often contains golden specks of pyrite and white veins of calcite. The mix differs from bead to bead, which gives natural lapis its character. Some beads show an even, deep blue with light veining, while more speckled ones have a rustic charm of their own.
In crystal traditions lapis is associated with wisdom, insight and truth. Many people appreciate it for its calm, deep colour during moments of prayer. These meanings are traditional.
Using your tasbih
A 33-bead strand is compact for travel and is passed through three times for a full count of 99. The 10mm beads are easy to feel without looking. Read more about the stone in our guide to lapis lazuli.
Keep it dry
Lapis is softer than many gemstones and sensitive to water and chemicals. Avoid using it with wet hands, keep perfume away from the beads, and clean them only with a dry cloth.
